Product Support  Installation Error Message "The file Ole2nls.dll is locked and cannot be updated.." The information in this article applies to: MARS 16bit rating applications for Windows Customized 16bit rating applications built by Middlewest Symptoms When you attempt to install a rating system you recieve a message: "The file ole2nls.dll is locked and cannot be updated.  Please shut down all applications and try again." Cause This error can occur when a Microsoft application is apparently running in background. Resolution First, make sure you save your work and exit all applications.  Restart the computer in MS-DOS mode by selecting Start, Shut down, and Restart in MS-DOS mode. Change to the Windows\system folder using the Change Directory DOS Command: CD c:\windows\system (Press Enter) Rename the ole2nls.dll file using the Rename command: REN ole2nls.dll ole2nls.old (Press Enter) Note: If the ole2nls.dll file has been previously renamed as ole2nls.old, you will need to choose a different name such as ole2nls.001.  You can check file name using the DOS Directory command: DIR ole2nls* (Press Enter) Type Exit to restart Windows.  you should then be able to install the rating system.
