NEWS Middlewest General Rate Committee Adopts Rate Increase 3/8/2006 The Middlewest General Rate Committee held a public meeting on March 7 to consider a previously docketed proposal for a general rate increase. The meeting was held in Kansas City and was attended by carrier and shipper representatives. A variety of economic data was presented for consideration and analysis, and after discussion a general rate increase with an overall impact of 3.24% was approved. The increase is scheduled to become effective April 3, 2006. Although rising fuel prices have had a major impact on carriers expenses, this factor was not considered as part of the discussion of the rate increase, since these costs are recovered separately through fuel surcharges.
