NEWS C & M Transportation, Inc., a 25-year-old Kansas City, Kansas trucking firm, closed its doors after lenders grew leery of providing money to a company that faced a federal tax lien, said John Ohle, C & M’s President. The company had negotiated a deal with the IRS about eight months ago to repay back taxes, but IRS agents unexpectedly placed a lien on assets in California, where C & M was relocating its treasury operations. John Ohle purchased the company in September 2002, but after facing a decline in business he began closing terminals about a year later. C & M originally had operations in 11 states, but at the time of the closing, it was down to four states and the number of employees was reduced from 150 to 70. |
